Right Medications to Treat Your Child

Is your child battling a cough or cold but you’re not sure what kind of medications to give? Do you have the right medicine but not sure when you can give the next dose? We can help with our list of medications and suggested dosages. Medication won’t treat everything – especially runny noses or allergy congestion.

Guidelines to Administer Appropriate Dosages

Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
  • Generally used for lowering fevers and combating body aches
  • Should be administered every 4 hours
  • Available in liquid (for infants) and chewable tablets for toddlers and older
  • Also, it can be found as rectal suppositories Ibuprofen (Motrin / Advil)
  • Generally used for lowering fevers, fighting body aches and pains
  • Should be administered every 6-8 hours, only as needed
  • Available in liquid (drops), suspension or children’s chewable tablets
  • Adult capsules can be used for ages 12 and older
  • Should not be given to a child with chickenpox
